About Cork

Who are you and where are you coming from?

This always the first thing I want to know when I visit a blog site. We all like to know who we are interacting with – With that said, I will lay it out for you so there won’t be any mistake about who I am and where I come from:

I grew up in the South Carolina Low Country in the little town of Walterboro.  Our family lived there until I was 13 when we moved to Mt. Pleasant, SC where I graduated from Moultrie High School in 1972.

Life has been a true adventure since the formative years of High School.

After six wild and crazy years in the US Navy which took me all over the world, doing things which sailors are known to do, I began to question many things, including the meaning of life and the purpose of my existence on Terra Firma!

That quest led me away from military life and to Eugene, OR where I began an intense quest for “truth”. After a couple of years of foraging into various spiritual practices and socio-political philosophies my journey ended with an amazing meeting with Jesus on my own “Damascus Road” (i.e. I-80) in Omaha, NE.

On June 15, 1981, after being on the receiving end of many encounters with God’s messengers, the truth of the gospel finally became clear as I was once again confronted by a complete stranger on a street in downtown Omaha. As a result, I acknowledged my sinful state and accepted God’s gift of pardon and promise of eternal life through His Son, Jesus Christ! This was the beginning of a brand new life for me.

That life took me back to Mt. Pleasant, SC where I met my beautiful wife, Susan. We were married and began our journey of serving God together in August 1982. Since that time we have lived in Winona Lake, IN for Seminary/Grad School; Tulsa, OK; and finally to Zanesville, OH where we have been since 1996. We have 5 children.

I am not ashamed of my faith in Christ nor to be His ambassador while there is still breath in me.    I love America and am so thankful for the privilege to live in this great country where we have the freedom to pursue our God-given dreams and utilize our God-given talents to take advantage of the opportunities that daily come our way. I love to write and teach and have a strong interest in helping others pursue and fulfill their own calling.

Lord willing, in the coming days, weeks, months, and years, I will post many thoughts and essays concerning my faith and beliefs , thoughts about life, liberty, and the responsible pursuit of happiness.

While you may not agree with everything posted here, your use of clean, innuendo and hate free language is very much appreciated.  I welcome thoughtful and well written comments on any of the posts on this blog.

May the light of the glorious Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ shine in your heart today.
